Based on over 80 years of management experience in starting and growing intellectual property management systems, we can: measure the potential of the faculty, students, and staff to generate invention disclosures; the effectiveness of the office in providing review of research contracts; soliciting disclosures; valuation; marketing; patenting; licensing; the effectiveness of the relationship with the faculty and the University administration; and recommend improvements.
The principals at TechTransfer Associates have sourced, screened, evaluated, marketed, licensed and patented technology for some of the most successful university programs in the United States. TechTransfer Associates can act as your temporary IP management office until demand and return justify the investment in a full time office.
TechTransfer Associates have established contacts with all of the major research universities and research institutes, including federal labs, around the world. Their network exists because of their leadership positions in the Association of University Technology Managers, the Licensing Executive Managers, and their global consulting projects. They have closed over 500 deals between approximately 50 universities and companies to acquire technology.
The principals of TechTransfer Associates have evaluated over 1000 inventions, filed over 300 patents, and completed over 500 deals in the last 10 years. The TechTransfer team has experience in both physical and life sciences with contacts in numerous markets. We can provide the value of intellectual assets based on all of the methods of valuation.
The principals at TTA have accumulated over 80 years’ experience in starting and accelerating the growth of SMEs. We have been professional venture capitalists, advanced manufacturing consultants, marketing specialists, and intellectual property managers. We have assisted SME’s in all areas of activity:
We can provide customized training programs targeted for Universities, SMEs or government agencies in selected market sectors to broaden thinking about strategic growth, innovation infrastructure, and IP management. We have conducted training seminars for Universities, SMEs and government agencies around the world.
OPPORTUNITY: A team of experienced, former university Technology Transfer Directors are offering to bring a workshop to your campus to enhance the value of Technology Transfer to your university and community.
THE UNIVERSITY’S TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER CHALLENGE:
Universities are being asked to have a direct impact on society by helping to create jobs, economic development, and turning research results into societal benefits.
OUR WORKSHOP APPROACH TO THE CHALLENGE
We have designed our Workshop Series to help you meet your University’s technology transfer challenge. It is based on our team’s over 100 years of university tech transfer experience, distilled into one-day workshops, combined with one-on-one consulting.
PEOPLE: The principals of the Tech Transfer Associates workshop team have run some of the most successful technology transfer offices at premier research universities. The team consists of:
CONTENT: We offer a choice of three types of 1-day Workshops, tailored to reach your target audience. The Workshop choices are:
Advanced Tech Transfer Office (TTO) Operations: Process Improvement – designed for experienced and new Tech Transfer professionals. A review of the University TTO process and practices with an emphasis on improving the value of the TTO office to the University by improving the operations from Research Contracts to Facilitating Start-ups. Outcomes: Increased understanding of the complex Tech Transfer process, from a strategic and a practical applied perspective.
Tech Transfer 101 – targeted for university inventors, administrators, and local economic development champions. An overview of the role of the TTO in the monetization of university inventions for the benefit of the inventor, university, and the larger public, with an emphasis on strategies and tactics that optimize the process of converting university invention to commercial opportunities -including new ventures, products, and jobs. Outcomes: Increased participation by faculty, and increased disclosures by informing the faculty of the process and its benefits to them, the university, and the public.
Entrepreneurial Boot Camp – intended for university inventors considering a start-up. An overview of the requirements for University start-ups, including the role of the TTO and the resources required to improve success of the start-up; giving you a blueprint for every major decision that the inventor must make to start a successful business around their idea. Outcomes: Increased awareness of what is involved in a start-up. Identify entrepreneurial faculty receptive to creating or licensing to a startup company. Builds confidence that the entrepreneurial activity is an acceptable academic endeavor.
Each Workshop format includes 90 minutes of one-on-one interviews and consulting between the presenters and the university inventors and/or TTO staff at the end of the 1-day session.
.VALUE: Price and Cost Savings. Normally, this level of expertise is only available at national meetings. We will bring our extensive experience to your university, for your staff and/or entrepreneurial inventors (often including the local economic development community) for an introductory price of $6,000. This price covers all our fees and travel expenses. Your university will save on travel and registration fees normally required to send your staff to national seminars and workshops, allowing you to expand this valuable education to all of your staff and interested faculty.
Experience in IP Management & Commercialization Workshops. Our Workshop professionals are all invited speakers in many different forums around the world. We have organized and conducted numerous such Workshops for universities and government agencies in the U.S. and in other countries. Our experience insures that the logistics will be managed effectively. Typically, we tailor these Workshops in coordination with the host TTO and/or Office of the VP for Research.
Access to Experts. Our Workshops, and the follow-on one-on-one interviews/consulting with our Workshop professionals, will help you, your staff, and university inventors solve routine and unique challenges that arise during the complex process of capturing value from university invention through research administration, IP management, technology transfer and commercialization.
THE UNIVERSITY’S WORKSHOP ROLE;
In our Workshops, the University promotes the event, arranges all logistics (registration, refreshments, duplication of handout materials, etc.) and assists with on-site set-up. We handle the rest.
